How to use it
Type the inches in the Inches box. The other boxes fill in with the same length as feet and inches, as decimal feet and in millimeters. A fraction works too: 118 7/8.
To go from feet to inches, type in the Feet-inch box, such as 6' 3", or the Decimal ft box, such as 6.25, and read the Inches box. The feet to inches converter has a chart for that direction.
The math
- Inches to decimal feet: divide by 12. 75 ÷ 12 = 6.25 ft.
- Inches to feet and inches: divide by 12 and keep the whole number as feet. What is left over is the inches. 75 ÷ 12 is 6 with 3 left over, so 75 inches is 6' 3".
- Feet to inches: multiply the feet by 12 and add the inches. 6' 3" is 6 × 12 + 3 = 75 inches.
The two answers are not the same number: 6' 3" is 6.25 ft, not 6.3 ft. For lengths given in tenths of a foot, see the decimal feet converter.
